Firmware updates

WD-20EPFirmware: WD-20EP mount build; AHC 1.1.0 interface reference

In this chapter

9.1 Firmware compatibility

WARNING · Never flash firmware for another model

Firmware for different WarpAstron mount models is not interchangeable. Never flash another model's firmware onto a WD-20EP, or WD-20EP firmware onto another model. This includes the similarly named WD-20E, WD-20P and WD-15E. A package for a different model, hardware revision or update target may prevent the device from starting or compromise its operation, saddle power and protective functions.

Check the model on the mount and the exact model, hardware revision and update target named in the release package before writing any file. The mount controller, motor and Advanced Hand Controller (AHC) are separate update targets; a file for one must never be flashed to another. If the package does not clearly identify your device, stop and contact WarpAstron support.

9.2 Updating the WD-20EP mount

The update tool and procedure may change between releases. Use only the WD-20EP-specific instructions supplied with the firmware release; this manual does not prescribe a fixed tool, connection, flash address or button sequence. Obtain the package and release notes from the WarpAstron software/download page or directly from WarpAstron support.

Before updating, stop imaging, guiding, tracking and mount movement. Put the equipment in a safe, supported condition, record the installed version and important settings, and use stable power. Confirm any prerequisite versions and whether the release requires settings or calibration to be restored. Do not interrupt the update or attempt a motor-firmware update unless the instructions for this exact WD-20EP release explicitly require it.

9.3 Checks after an update

Read back the installed version. Before normal slewing, check the observing location and time, mode, Home/encoder reference, Park state and saved safety settings, especially EC HA Limit, AEB, altitude and Meridian limits. Complete any calibration or restart required by the release notes, then make a short, supervised low-speed movement and STOP check with a clear travel path.

If the update fails or the mount's state is unexpected, keep the equipment safe and do not repeatedly flash files or issue movement commands. Record the file name, previous and intended versions, updater message and status indicators, then follow the release-specific recovery instructions or contact WarpAstron support.

9.4 AHC firmware updates

AHC firmware is separate from WD-20EP mount firmware. For the controller's update procedure, obtain the current AHC instructions from WarpAstron support. Never use a mount firmware file or mount flashing procedure to update AHC. AEB Auto Tune from AHC requires AHC firmware 1.1.0 or later and compatible WD-20EP mount firmware.
